Propellers: four speeds are the only controlsGimbal stand: free to tilt and turn, not to fly awayA 1.4 kg quadcopter on a gimbal stand. It has no rudder and no flaps; the flight controller only changes four motor speeds. To hover, each 10-inch prop turns about 4,920 rpm and lifts 3.4 N, a quarter of the 13.7 N weight. Speed up the rear pair and the nose dips; speed up the left pair and it rolls right; tilted, the thrust pushes it sideways. Diagonal props spin opposite ways so their torques cancel; speed up the two counter-clockwise props and the frame yaws clockwise. The gauge reads thrust minus weight from the load cell under the post.
